Bohol is one of the more famous destinations I've been to although I really like exploring lesser known spots like Talicud Island in Samal and Bantayan Island as these islands were seldom frequented by people. But a trip to Bohol is a must for every traveler hungry for experience and everything in between.
Anyway, I went to Bohol in the summer of 2008 during our team's quarterly team building and I must say it was one of my most memorable experience to date. Had it not been to my team's constant quest for outings and such, I wouldn't see Bohol before the great quake.
GETTING THERE
From Cebu City, you must take a boat going to either Carmen or Tagbilaran. I don't remember how much is the fare exactly but it might be around 200 pesos. One must also join a group to tour Bohol so you can save on the transportation expenses. There are several van-for-hires around town though, which you can negotiate if you have a party of five or more.
When we arrived in Carmen, we rented a van for around 1500 (rate in 2008) which I'm not even sure if my memory served me right. haha...but I remember we just rode the same van going to Sagbayan Peak, Loboc, Baclayon, and eventually in Panglao.
WHERE TO STAY
There were numerous villas and hotels in Panglao if you want to stay by the beach for the night. My team and I rented a villa a few walks away from the sea for only 3500 (again this is 2008 rate). It had 2 rooms, a kitchen and a shared bath. Enough to accommodate a group of ten.
FOOD
Since we came from nearby Cebu City, we already brought with us a few groceries enough to last us a day or two though we tried local food in Carmen. For pasalubongs, I remember going to that small street where the local delicacies (peanut kisses and kalamay) is made. The driver knows where to take you so don't worry.
CHURCHES
Before the great quake that struck Bohol in 2013, it boast of it's many architectural wonders. There were quite a few but my team and I had only been to Baclayon and listened to the Loboc Children Choir in Loboc Church. To just take a picture and marvel at the beauty of these churches is enough to take you back in time. Everyone needs to know a little bit of our own history and experience what it's like to be inside these great professions of faith.
